About AGRFWith food security now on the global agenda, leaders are turning to African agriculture as the answer to the question of how we feed the future. At the recent G8 Summit, global leaders made bold new commitments to unite the power of the public- and private-sectors, launching the next phase of the global food security effort. The approach is clear as we must invest in Africa's potential for rapid and sustainable agricultural growth to raise 50 million people out of poverty over the next 10 years.
The African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2012 - from 26 to 28 September in Arusha, Tanzania - will continue the global dialogue that began with the World Economic Forum on Africa and the G8. Putting smallholder farmers at the center of the conversation, the forum will develop concrete action plans for developing Africa's agricultural sector. AGRF 2012 will bring together African heads of state, ministers, farmers, private agribusiness firms, financial institutions, NGOs, civil society and scientists, to discuss the right way to scale up investments and innovation for sustainable agricultural growth and food security.
Nestled between the snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park, Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge will allow attendees connect with Africa's agricultural landscape - the venue lies within a lush, 140-acre coffee plantation with natural streams and verdant hills.
Guests will be hosted by H.E. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of The Republic of Tanzania with former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan chairing the forum. Key speakers include Jørgen Ole Haslestad, CEO YARA International, Donald Kaberuka, President African Development Bank and Kanayo Nwanze, President International Fund for Agricultural Development. Forum topics include:
AGRF 2012 will provide a forum for action-oriented discussion. Working meetings will build new alliances and agreements, specific projects and pathways for scaling success.
Please join us for this uniquely African conversation about new global food security commitments. |
